Sensor Tower: GTA VI Pre-Orders Ran 572% Above Normal Around the Extended Look — an Estimate, Not a Sales Figure
The analytics firm estimates pre-orders rose 436% on August 27 over the day before, and ran 572% above the previous month’s daily average across August 27–28. The “nearly 600%” going around is PlayStation’s figure alone.
Reported — these are Sensor Tower’s modelled estimates, passed on by the outlets that reported them. Neither Rockstar nor Take-Two has released a pre-order number, so this cannot be Confirmed.
The figures, as reported: on August 27, the day An Extended Look premiered on Netflix, estimated pre-orders rose about 436% over the day before. Across August 27–28 they ran about 572% above the average day of the previous 30 days.
By platform: PlayStation was up about 606% and Xbox about 127%. That PlayStation number is where the “nearly 600%” headlines come from; the overall figure is 572%. Sensor Tower’s running total was put at roughly 4.86 million pre-orders worth about $476 million, around 77% of them on PlayStation.
The limit of this story: Sensor Tower builds these numbers from its own panel and modelling. Its public GTA VI sales tracker page does not show the percentages in a form we could read, so we rely on the outlets that reported them. Treat them as a direction, not a count. Take-Two has published no pre-order figure.
