The Game Awards 2026 Cutoff Is November 20, the Day After GTA VI Launches
The show’s rules say games must be on sale by Friday, November 20, 9 p.m. PT. GTA VI’s November 19 date is inside the window.
Confirmed — The Game Awards’ own FAQ says: “Games must be made commercially available to customers on or before Friday, November 20, 2026, at 9 p.m. PT.” GTA VI is out on November 19, 2026, one day earlier.
The Players’ Voice category has a later cutoff: “games must ship on or before November 30, 2026.” Push Square, which spotted the date, notes the cutoff was November 21 in 2025 and November 22 in 2024.
The limit of this story: being eligible is not being nominated. Nominees are picked by the show’s jury of media outlets, and nothing has been announced. If GTA VI’s date moved past November 20, it would fall into next year’s show.
