Take-Two: GTA 6 Pre-Orders Off to an “Exceptional Start” — From Just Five Days of Sales
On Take-Two’s Q1 earnings call, CEO Strauss Zelnick said GTA 6 pre-orders are off to an “exceptional start” — from just the final five days of the quarter — and the company reiterated its $8.0–8.2 billion outlook for the year, tied explicitly to the 19 November launch. For a public company, re-committing guidance to that date is the strongest “no delay” signal there is.
Take-Two’s first-quarter FY2027 earnings (quarter ended 30 June 2026, reported 7 August) gave the first official read on GTA 6 pre-orders. CEO Strauss Zelnick told analysts they are off to an “exceptional start” — and declined to share numbers.
The context makes the quote heavier than it sounds. Push Square notes $1.39 billion in net bookings for the quarter (Take-Two’s own release reports $1.53 billion in GAAP net revenue — different metric, same quarter), with better-than-expected performance credited to the GTA and NBA 2K franchises — and pre-orders were only live for the final five days of that quarter. Whatever “exceptional” means in units, it was earned in less than a week.
The bigger tell is in the guidance. Take-Two’s release reiterates its Fiscal 2027 net bookings outlook of $8.0–8.2 billion, “citing positive trends and excitement around the November 19th launch of Grand Theft Auto VI.” That outlook only works if the game ships on 19 November — a public company does not re-commit full-year guidance to a date it privately doubts. It is the closest thing to a “no more delays” statement Take-Two will ever put in writing.
What was not said matters too: no split between the $79.99 Standard and $99.99 Ultimate editions, and no regional breakdown. Reports claiming the Ultimate Edition is outselling Standard are circulating, but they do not trace back to anything Take-Two has actually disclosed, so we are not repeating them as fact.
