Sprint Reportedly Moves to the Left Stick, Ending a Tap-to-Sprint Habit of Nearly 25 Years

A streamer with a two-hour hands-on says sprinting is now a click of the left stick rather than repeated taps of X or A. If it holds, it ends a tap-to-sprint default that dates back to the early 3D games.

Reported. The source is MikeShowSha, describing a hands-on session at a closed preview; Rockstar has published no control scheme, and the site has seen no footage of a button prompt confirming it. One attendee’s account of a default binding is worth recording and worth labelling honestly.

Why it would matter beyond the novelty: tapping to sprint has always occupied the thumb that also drives the camera. Moving it to a stick click frees the right thumb while running, which changes how chases read on a controller more than a button swap sounds like it should.

What is not known: whether the old tap-to-sprint survives as an option. Rockstar has shipped alternate control layouts before, and no report from the preview says either way. Until the game is out or Rockstar publishes a layout, treat this as one credible account rather than a settled fact.
