Sensor Tower: GTA VI Pre-Orders Are 148% Ahead of Modern Warfare 2 at the Same Point Before Launch
The analytics firm estimates 6.08 million pre-orders and about $594 million as of October 13. Its comparison covers US digital pre-orders only.
This is Reported: the figures are estimates from the analytics firm Sensor Tower, published by GamesIndustry.biz on October 20, 2026. Rockstar and Take-Two have not released pre-order numbers.
Sensor Tower compared GTA VI’s pre-order curve with recent big launches, including Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2022), Diablo 4, Hogwarts Legacy and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. GamesIndustry.biz writes: “GTA 6 is 148% ahead of Modern Warfare 2 at this point from launch.”
The firm estimates that as of October 13 the game had been pre-ordered 6.08 million times, about $594 million in revenue, with 74% on PlayStation and 26% on Xbox, and most pre-orders for the $100 Ultimate Edition. That is up from the jump Sensor Tower reported after the Extended Look.
The limit: the comparison “only covers digital preorders in the United States”, so boxed copies are not counted. Some reports of this story give 146% or 6.45 million; we use the figures in GamesIndustry.biz’s write-up of the data.
