Official Confirmed

Preload Starts November 12 — and Yes, the “Disc” Is a Download Code

Digital pre-orders can begin preloading on November 12, a full week ahead of the November 19 launch. Physical copies ship in a retail box but contain a download code rather than a Blu-ray disc, letting retailers send boxes out early while everyone unlocks together on release day.

Confirmed — from Take-Two’s own pre-order announcement.

Digital pre-orders can begin preloading on November 12, a full week before the November 19 launch. Everyone still unlocks together on release day; preloading only moves the download, not the unlock.

The part that surprises people: the physical edition is not a disc. Retail boxes contain a download code. That is the mechanism that lets retailers ship boxes out early without breaking street date — the code is worthless until the 19th, so an early-shipped box leaks nothing.

Practical consequence worth planning for: a box on a shelf is not a playable copy, and neither is a preloaded download. Anyone claiming to be selling a working copy before launch is running a scam — we have covered several.
