Pre-Orders Estimated at 4.38 Million — But That Figure Is an Analyst's, Not Rockstar's

Sensor Tower puts GTA 6 at about 4.38 million pre-orders and $429 million through 18 August, split roughly 77% PS5 / 23% Xbox. Rockstar and Take-Two have published no numbers at all.

The breakdown, as estimated: 3.38 million on PS5 (about $331 million) against 1 million on Xbox (about $98 million), measured through 18 August — roughly eight weeks after pre-orders opened on 25 June.

Where this comes from matters more than the number. It is a Sensor Tower estimate from a weekly-updating sales tracker, not a disclosure. Neither Rockstar nor Take-Two has released pre-order figures, and third-party trackers work from sampled data. Expect the figure to move, and do not treat it as fact.

The one thing on the record is qualitative: Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has called pre-orders "exceptional", saying he had not seen numbers like them before. That is a description, not a disclosure — he attached no figure to it.
