Bloomberg reporter: GTA VI’s developers tried to replace the weapon wheel, then kept it
Bloomberg’s reporter says Rockstar spent “months, if not years” testing alternatives before going back to a weapon wheel.
Reported — Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier said this in a YouTube video about his visit to Rockstar North, as quoted by Dexerto on October 19. Rockstar has not commented. It follows his Bloomberg feature on the making of GTA VI.
Schreier: “And so they spent months, if not years, trying a million different things that would replace the weapon wheel,” and “They tried trays and webs and all sorts of different things.” Then: “After all that, they just wound up back at a weapon wheel and in the final game it’s just a weapon wheel again.”
According to the reports, the search came from wanting a more limited, Red Dead Redemption 2-style loadout, and some designers left over the lack of direction. Schreier: “It wasn’t actually making progress for a long period of time and that was frustrating for people.”
The limit of this story: these are quotes from Schreier, as reprinted by Dexerto, not from Rockstar. How many weapons you can carry is not confirmed by Rockstar.
