Insider Gaming Retracted Its Own “Leaker Threatens to Dump the Full Build” Story — the Evidence Was a Faked Image
On 22 August, Insider Gaming reported that the leaker known as CYBERLEEK had given Rockstar an ultimatum: back off legally or a full playable GTA 6 build gets released through a “dead man’s switch.” The outlet withdrew the story the next day. Writer Grant Taylor-Hill said it “was based on an image and discourse that have since been proven false, manufactured and circulated online by one of the many people copying or aping what CYBERLEEK is doing.”
There is no ultimatum, no dead man’s switch and no public playable build. A fabricated screenshot got into a real outlet, and from there into aggregators and reaction videos, before the outlet that published it took it down.
Insider Gaming’s redaction notice is the primary source here and says it plainly: the report rested on “an image and discourse that have since been proven false, manufactured and circulated online by one of the many people copying or aping what CYBERLEEK is doing.”
Why we are running a retraction as a story. The withdrawal will travel a fraction as far as the claim did. Anyone still repeating the “dead man’s switch” line is repeating something its own publisher has withdrawn — and impostor accounts copying the CyberLeek name are now a documented part of this story, not a theory.
Rockstar and Take-Two have made no statement about any ultimatum or build threat. Their only public actions on the leaks have been takedowns and legal process, which we cover separately.
