AI-Generated Fakes Are Now Mixed In With the Real Leaked Clips — and Here Is How People Are Telling Them Apart
Clips presented as leaked GTA 6 gameplay are circulating that show mechanics, vehicles and scenes present in no Rockstar material. Kotaku singles out an AI clip of Lucia at a theme park and another of Jason playing basketball, both widely mistaken for real footage. The genuine leaked clips and the fabrications are being consumed as one undifferentiated stream.
We are not going to tell you what proportion is fake, because nobody has counted. Kotaku describes searches returning “a mix of actual leaks and plenty of old AI-generated crap” and names X as the worst offender. That is as far as the reporting goes, and it is as far as we will go.
The tells people are using:
- Real-world car badges. GTA uses in-house brands — Grotti, Declasse, Canis. A Ferrari badge is not a leak, it is a generator that has never played the game.
- Objects changing shape between frames — a wing mirror, a sign, a hand.
- Malformed in-game text. Signage and HUD lettering that dissolves under a pause.
- Unnatural hair, eye and limb movement.
Why this matters beyond the next few weeks: people are forming expectations from footage that was never in the game, and will later insist those features were “cut”. Some of the loudest arguments after launch will be about content that never existed.
One thing worth being precise about: a copyright takedown authenticates only the specific post Take-Two named. It does not certify anything else in circulation, and treating a strike as proof of authenticity is its own error.
Rockstar has commented on no circulating clip. The only gameplay it stands behind is what it publishes itself — which, for now, means waiting for 27 August.
