The World of Leonida

A whole state, not a city. Rockstar names six regions — from the art-deco strip of Vice City to the swamps of Grassrivers and the ridgelines of Mount Kalaga. Six more names come from road signs, social posts, fan reads or leaks, and are labelled.

Every named region

Rockstar’s own descriptions, quoted. Names that come only from a leak or a fan read are labelled Unverified, and we don’t describe them.

Leonida is not one place

Eight distinct environments, all visible on screen in Rockstar’s own videos, with the timestamp of each. Vice City is the loudest part of this state — it is nowhere near the biggest.

The wetlands in GTA 6

The wetlands

Trailer 1, 00:18

Sawgrass, standing water and birds lifting off at golden hour, with a Ferris wheel on the horizon. The least Vice City image in any trailer, from the same trailer as the beach.

The Keys in GTA 6

The Keys

Trailer 2, 00:06

A weatherboard house up on stilts — built for flooding, which tells you the geography before anyone says a word. A classic car with tail fins in the drive.

The causeways in GTA 6

The causeways

Extended Look, 16:30

Land broken into strips and islands, stitched together by bridges carrying real traffic. Leonida is a water map before it is anything else.

The beach in GTA 6

The beach

Trailer 1, 00:21

Umbrellas, swimmers and jet skis offshore, in 4K. The crowd is grouped rather than scattered evenly — different sizes, doing different things.

The arts district in GTA 6

The arts district

Extended Look, 17:00

Full-building murals, overhead power lines and a cyclist. A neighbourhood with its own character rather than generic city filler.

Small-town Leonida in GTA 6

Small-town Leonida

Trailer 1, 01:09

Dust, heat haze, a low-rise storefront and a classic car. An in-game social post elsewhere names one of these towns Hamlet.

The money in GTA 6

The money

Extended Look, 24:15

A modern apartment lit by a single teal source. The state has an expensive end, and it is shot completely differently from the rest.

The swamp party in GTA 6

The swamp party

Trailer 1, 00:54

Trucks, churned ground and a crowd dancing in the mud. Rockstar put this in the first minute of footage anyone ever saw.

The road signs give us names to attach to some of this — VCI Airport, Ambrosia, Port VC, Southside and Peacock Bay, all read straight off official signage.

The neon spine of the state — Ocean Beach, the port, and the strip Rockstar has rebuilt from the ground up.

Leonida Keys

A sun-bleached island chain and the state's smuggling front door.

Grassrivers postcard artwork

Grassrivers

The Everglades analogue: airboats, alligators and people who don't want visitors.

Mount Kalaga National Park postcard artwork

Mount Kalaga N.P.

Leonida's wilderness, up against the state's northern border — Rockstar promises “prime hunting, fishing, and off-road trails”.

Port Gellhorn postcard artwork

Port Gellhorn

“Cheap motels, shut-down attractions, and empty strip malls”, running on “malt liquor, painkillers, and truck stop energy drinks”.

Ambrosia postcard artwork

Ambrosia

“American industry and old school values still reign supreme” — a sugar refinery, and a local biker gang.
